Trust Your Demon

"Occasionally, there arises a writing situation where you see an alternative to what you are doing, a mad, wild gamble of a way for handling something, which may leave you looking stupid, ridiculous or brilliant -you just don't know which. You can play it safe there, too, and proceed along the route you'd mapped out for yourself. Or you can trust your personal demon who delivered that crazy idea in the first place. Trust your demon."
~ Roger Zelazny

Today, I leave you with these words of brilliance:

Trust Your Demon!

Excellent! Love it. All the books I've enjoyed the most had authors who were prepared to be incredibly evil toward the characters.

My best writing comes from trusting those demons. I'll be hanging on to this quote :D

Ha ha! Where would my work be without demons?

No seriously, I write a lot about demons, so it wouldn't be very good at all. ;)

Love this quote, Shannon!

Great quote! I suffer crises of confidence continually and the temptation to play it safe is so strong at times.

But deep down I know where I did the riskiest things, my story is most memorable.

Great quote! I've always referred to this idea as "writing scared," but I like Zelazny's devilish ring! Plus, I'd trust any demon as cute as that!

That's a great quote. I really need to trust my demons more I think. I worry too much about looking dumb.

Interesting advice. Trust your instinct, even when you feel like second guessing your self. I like that.

Just noticed the pink hair in your profile pic. Se'chic! I needed to be bumped in the butt about the demons. With the read-through/unveiling of my play this weekend, the self-doubt gremlins are screaming at me!!

!!! Okay, I'm going to do it. Yesterday, I asked my crit partners about a wild idea I had, something I hadn't expected to do in the structure of the novel I'm working, and they said I should explore it. After your post, I've decided to get out my ice pick and climb this iffy mountain. If you hear screams, it means I'm having a real adventure. :D

I've been there. I'll try to trust my demon!

That just might be my favourite quote ever! :)

That is good advice for me now. My demon is much smarter than me. Love your new profile pic!
